In Niger, a new finance law which proposes an "exponential" tax hike for private media companies could "lead to the de facto disappearance of many press titles," warns Reporters sans frontières (RSF).

"We hope that this law does not represent a new instrument to censor the country's press," says the organisation, noting that many publications are "already quite fragile."
