As journalists and free-expression groups around the world celebrated World Press Freedom Day last week, three IFEX members highlighted the global challenges facing press freedom, including increased safety risks for media in conflict zones and weakening democracies.

ZIMBABWEAN CARTOONIST HONOURED

Cartoonists Rights International (CRN) has awarded its annual Courage in Editorial Cartooning prize to Tony Namate of Zimbabwe for refusing to be intimidated by government threats.

NATIONAL PRESS CLUB OF CANADA AWARDS INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER

A Canadian investigative reporter who refused to reveal his sources to federal police was honoured on 3 May with the National Press Club of Canada's (NPC) World Press Freedom Editorial Award.
