(RSF/IFEX) - Having just recently been released from jail after serving time on an "insult" charge, Milton Chacaguasay Flores, the editor of the "La Verdad" magazine, was once again imprisoned on 9 July 2009 following a new verdict for the same offence. RSF considers this newest action again Chacaguasay Flores to constitute judicial persecution, especially since, according to the editor's lawyers, the sentencing took place without giving him the opportunity to defend himself. This time, Chacaguasay Flores was sentenced to one month in prison. However, without waiting for an examination of his appeal of the ruling, which would have suspended the application of the sentence, the judges ratified the verdict and increased the sentence to four months in prison.
