(RSF/IFEX) - RSF is filled with consternation following the murder of
Shivani Bhatnagar, of "The Indian Express". According to RSF's information,
on 23 January 1999, Bhatnagar, special correspondent for the daily "The
Indian Express", was murdered by unknown assailants at her home in east
Delhi. She was strangled, stabbed in the neck and hit on the head. According
to the police, quoted in press reports, she may have known the murderers
because she seemed to have given them drinks and snacks. Furthermore,
although the flat was ransacked, the door was not broken. Bhatnagar was a
special correspondent for the investigations department. She was married and
the mother of a three month-old son.

Send appeals to the Prime Minister:
  • asking him to ensure that everything is done to find those responsible
    for
    the murder and to bring them to justice
  • asking to be kept informed of the results of the police investigation
