In India-controlled Kashmir, a dozen journalists have been killed since the start of separatist violence in 1989, says Reporters Without Borders (Reporters sans frontières, RSF). Another was added to the total last week.
Parvaz Mohammed Sultan, owner and editor-in-chief of the News and Feature Alliance (NAFA) news agency, was shot and killed on 31 January by two men at his home office in the city of Srinagar, RSF reports. Sultan, aged 35, was also a local correspondent for the Indian newspaper "Quami Awaaz."
Although the motive behind the murder has not been established, police say the two assailants were armed separatists, RSF says.
