Photojournalist attacked in India's Nagaland state
According to information received from IFJ sources in Nagaland, Caisii Mao was attacked while covering clashes between two armed groups belonging to rival tribes in the district headquarters town. The clashes erupted after a young man belonging to one of the tribes died while in the custody of the other the previous day.
Caisii Mao suffered large bruises around his knees and arms and his camera was destroyed in the incident which reportedly occurred in the presence of security forces deployed to control the protesters.
The Dimapur Press Club has strongly condemned the incident and asked for due compensation for the photo-journalist. Other prominent professional organizations in the state, such as the Kohima Press Club in the state capital and the Mokokchung Press Club have joined the protest.
The IFJ extends its solidarity to the demands of the journalists in Nagaland.
