SEEMO ANNOUNCES 2003 PLANS

This year promises to be a busy one for the South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO). The International Press Institute (IPI) affiliate is focusing many of its energies on organising "Dialogue" meetings to promote co-operation among senior editors, publishers and media executives from southeast Europe.

Last year, the first two meetings brought together journalists from Macedonia and Yugoslavia and proved to be a success, SEEMO says.

Upcoming Dialogue meetings will bring together journalists from Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia and Kosovo, as well as journalists from Roma media outlets across southeast Europe.

SEEMO also plans to hold three conferences this year, including one in September on independent public broadcasting in Romania in partnership with the IPI and the Romanian Broadcasting Corporation.

During 2002, SEEMO registered 442 press-freedom violations in southeast Europe. Serbia led all countries with 64 cases, followed by Romania (58) and Bosnia-Herzegovina (57).
