AMARC COVERS WORLD SOCIAL FORUM

Community radio had a high profile at the World Social Forum (WSF) last week, with the presence of a World Association of Community Broadcasters (AMARC) team of reporters that provided live coverage of the global conference in Nairobi, Kenya.

AMARC sent more than 35 journalists to the conference, some of whom were on their first foreign assignment. AMARC reports were broadcast by hundreds of community radios around the world.

AMARC collaborated with Panos, Inter Press Service and Telesur in providing coverage of the WSF, which was held from 20 to 25 January 2007.

At the WSF, AMARC also held several seminars on community radio, enabling forum participants to learn about the relationships between community radio and human rights, gender, good governance and social movements.
