Violations of media freedoms in May 2012

(MADA/IFEX) - Ramallah, 4 June 2012 - Attacks on journalists, some of which were life-threatening, continued in the occupied Palestinian territories in May.

The Israeli occupation forces suppressed journalists covering events organised to show solidarity with Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike, among them five journalists, four of whom are under administrative detention.

After a quiet month in March with nearly no violations by Palestinian authorities, numerous violations against journalists in both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip led to a decline in media freedom in Palestine.
