(CPJ/IFEX) - On 9 January 1999, Mabay Kamara, a free-lance reporter, was
abducted by Revolutionary United Front (RUF) rebels from his residence on
Soldier Street, near the State House in Central Freetown. A female RUF rebel
commando ordered his abduction. The rebels then set the house on fire before
leaving the area. Kamara has not been seen since. His wife, who witnessed
the abduction and was also threatened with death by the rebels, has also
disappeared.
