A driver for the "Las Noticias de Cojedes" newspaper died after having been shot in the head as he drove the newspaper's employees home.
(IPYS/IFEX) – On 6 September 2009, William Alexander Hurtado Rivas, a driver for the “Las Noticias de Cojedes” newspaper, died after having been shot in the head the previous day as he drove the newspaper’s employees home. The shooting took place in the Limoncito area, in the state of Cojedes, central Venezuela.
The Cojedes police have detained two suspects in the murder and are looking for a third. It is unknown if the media outlet was the target of the attack or if it was a result of random criminal activities. Another of the newspaper’s vehicles, however, did have stones thrown at it several weeks earlier near the location where the shooting took place.
Four bullets struck the vehicle Hurtado was driving. One of the bullets hit him in the head, rendering him unconscious. He was taken to the Doctor Egor Nucete General Hospital and then transferred to the city of Valencia for surgery. He died several hours later.
IPYS will continue its investigations in order to ascertain the motive for the murder.
