Rodolfo Walsh was tortured and killed by the military dictatorship in 1977.
(FOPEA/IFEX) – The Argentine Journalism Forum (FOPEA) expresses its satisfaction at the conviction and sentencing of 18 former military officers who have been accused of kidnapping, torturing and assassinating 86 people, including the journalist Rodolfo Walsh. Walsh disappeared on 25 March 1977.
The court case was heard by Justices Daniel Obligado, Ricardo Farías and Germán Castelli, and according to FOPEA, it represents an important step forward for the country’s collective memory. The 18 defendants received sentences ranging from 18 years to life imprisonment.
FOPEA is pleased that Walsh’s killers have been brought to justice, despite the time that has passed since his death, and continues to hope that justice will be served in the remaining cases of journalists who were kidnapped and executed during the military dictatorship.
