As Egypt marks the tenth year anniversary of the 25 January revolution, its media landscape continues to be targeted by an aggressive crackdown that has rendered the country one of the world’s biggest jailers of journalists.

An information blackout has exacerbated the coronavirus pandemic in Egypt, says the Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE), and calls on authorities to provide access to vital information in an effort to confront the growing health crisis.

As authorities escalate their crackdown on human rights defenders and civil society organisations, rights groups call for the immediate release of detained members of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR), and an end to the persecution of Egyptian civil society.
