Post-election violence continues: Journalists still targeted in some parts of Bangladesh.
1. In Chittagong, known terrorist Bidhan Barua threatened the daily Prothom Alo bureau office over the telephone. On Sunday 14 October, the daily Prothom Alo published a report about the terrorist activities of Bidhan Barua, Abu Thar and others. In the report it mentioned that all these activities were protected by one of the prime minister’s advisors. On the following day, 15 October, Bidhan Barua telephoned the Prothom Alo office and asked who had written the story. He threatened them, stating that “you’re [the Prothom Alo] over stepping, I’ll [Bidhan Barua] slit your throat, be careful.” Everyone knows that, according to the police report, Bidhan is one of the worst terrorists in the city. A Prothom Alo authority informed police about the threat.
2. A group of terrorists attacked the Gazipur district press club on the night of 15 October. After breaking the lock, they entered the press club at midnight, ransacked the office and looted all valuables. It was the second attempt by the terrorist group to take possession of the club. They attempted it the first time on Saturday night. Two complaints were filed with the police and the deputy commissioner visited the place. In a statement, the press club leader mentioned that by using the name of the ruling party, a group of non-journalists tried to take possession of the club with the help of terrorists.
