Reporter from Khulna daily Anirban kidnapped
Shukur Ali (aged 30), a staff reporter with the local daily Dainik Anirban, was kidnapped by criminals from Dumuria on the night of 5 July 2002.
Police said Dainik Anirban reporter Shukur Ali, son of Afsar Ali, from the village of Ulla, was kidnapped from his house by criminals. Police could not trace Ali’s whereabouts until the evening of 6 July.
His colleague Nahar Ali was also kidnapped and tortured to death in April 2001.
In another incident, a reporter from the daily Inqilab, Abul Kashem, was beaten by armed men in Digholia Sadar on the morning of 5 July.
Police and local people said Abul Kashem, who is also a homeopathic practitioner, was beaten by unidentified thugs while on his way to his office in Dhigholia Bazar.
He was immediately taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
