(IPYS/IFEX) – On 17 March 2007, “Nueva Prensa de Guayana” newspaper journalist María Elena Ramírez was prevented from entering the Vinicio Grillet de San Félix health centre, in Ciudad Guayana, to cover an activity by a group of health promoters. Ciudad Guayana is a city located in Bolívar state in southern Venezuela.
Despite the fact that the reporter showed the security guard her invitation to attend the activity, he denied her entrance, arguing that she did not have the permission of the centre’s director, Orlando Tamaroni. The security guard and another employee stated that the director had ordered them to stop from entering anyone who did not have prior permission.
The centre is normally open to the public.
