(IPYS/IFEX) – Since 23 March 2007, journalist Marcelo Sánchez Oliva, producer and host of the public affairs programme “Miramar en la Noticia” on Radio Miramar radio station, has been receiving daily death threats on his cell phone. The source of the threats is unknown.
Sánchez Oliva told IPYS that the caller has been warning him that if he continues reporting on the preparations for a regional strike, to take place on 11 and 12 April, he will be murdered just as Miguel Pérez Julca, a journalist from Jaén, was on 17 March (see IFEX alert of 20 March 2007).
Sánchez Oliva intends to ask the municipal government to guarantee his safety.
