The UN Human Rights Council (HRC) adopted today during its 49th session, by 20 votes in favour, a resolution that establishes for one year a “Group of Experts on Human Rights” with a mandate to investigate and seek accountability for serious human rights violations in Nicaragua.
“The State’s blatant attempts to suppress Rappler’s election-related fact-checking services is an unacceptable attempt to cheat the public of their right to accurate information, which is critical during elections,” said the Hold the Line Coalition Steering Committee.
On 1 April, photojournalist Maks Levin was found dead in a village near Kyiv after having been missing for more than two weeks. On 2 April, Lithuanian documentary maker Mantas Kvedaravičius was killed, reportedly by Russian shelling, in Mariupol.
“Unless conditions improve quickly, the 2022 elections will again be a sham perpetrated by the Government of Bahrain on the Bahraini people and any façade of democracy in Bahrain will end,” said Husain Abdulla, ADHRB Executive Director.
