(IPYS/IFEX) – On 11 January 2007, several private media outlets were denied access to the National Commission for Police Reform (Comisión Nacional para la Reforma Policial) press conference where the proposal for the country?s new police model was presented. This took place at the Ministry of External Relations (Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores) in Caracas.
All the media received an invitation to the press conference, which, however, ended up being exclusively for the publicly-owned television station Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).
The official explanation given to journalists by government spokespersons was that access was denied at the last minute due to lack of space and the large number of people who had already entered the conference room.
