Happy Holidays from all of us at IFEX!

We believe that without the fundamental right to freedom of expression and information we cannot build, sustain or defend just societies.

It’s not news to any of our subscribers that these rights are under threat, whether from crackdowns on critical voices, attacks on journalists, the chilling effect of surveillance technologies, government-ordered internet shutdowns, or the general erosion of trust in a world suffering from a serious case of information disorder.

But 2019 also saw the powerful impact of the global IFEX network, working collaboratively to strengthen civil society, end impunity, stop shutdowns, get better laws passed, and create a safer and healthier climate for us all to exercise our rights.

In our last IFEX This Week of this year, we share six pieces from the archives that illuminate some of these challenges as well as efforts to overcome them.

Best wishes from the team here -- we’ll be taking a short break over the rest of the holidays, resuming publication in two weeks!
