Twenty-nine IFEX members have signed a letter to the Prosecutor General about the detention of editor Igor Vinyavsky, whose detention is believed to be politically motivated, calling for him to be released and for the evidence leading to his arrest to be made public.

The journalists wore black armbands to symbolise their protest against the recent classification of information by the government.

A member of the Constituent Assembly warned a journalist and camera operator that their safety could not be taken for granted if they continued to report on him.

In separate incidents, protesting students burned copies of “Nagarik” newspaper and several journalists were threatened with physical aggression.
