Out in the Cold: New campaign highlights free expression violations ahead of Sochi Olympics

As the world turns its attention to the southern city of Sochi in Russia, PEN International’s Out in the Cold campaign asks supporters from around the world to take action, calling for the repeal of anti-free expression laws and urging the authorities of the Russian Federation to fully respect the fundamental right to freedom of expression.

Turkish human rights lawyer prepares for hearing after 4 years in jail

Muharrem Erbey was arrested in Diyarbakır, south-eastern Turkey, in December 2009. He is one of scores of lawyers, politicians, and writers to be detained as part of a wide-reaching anti-terror probe into pro-Kurdish intellectuals. The next hearing of his trial is scheduled to start on 13 January 2014.
