Israeli authorities extended the administrative detention of Nawaf Al-Amer, held since 28 June 2011, for four additional months.
(MADA/IFEX) – Ramallah, 26 October 2011 – Israeli authorities extended the administrative detention of Nawaf Al-Amer, Quds TV program coordinator for the West Bank, for four months, without filing any charges against him.
His wife, Mrs. Nawal Hussein Al-Amer, told MADA that Israeli authorities officially informed her this morning of the administrative detention extension and declined to provide any reasons for his arrest and imprisonment. She added: “We had heard the news about the extension of his detention, but we only received confirmation that it was correct this morning.”
Israeli forces arrested Nawaf Al-Amer on 28 June 2011 from his home in Kofor Kalel southeast of Nablus city, West Bank, after raiding his home and searching a floor of the building. Mrs Al-Amer confirmed that occupation forces have additionally prevented their sons, who are over 16 years old, from visiting their father since his arrest.
The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) strongly condemns the extension of Al-Amer’s administrative detention, which stands in flagrant violation of legal due process under international law. MADA additionally condemns the continued acts of aggression enacted by Israeli forces to disrupt and restrict the work of journalists in the Palestinian territories. MADA demands the immediate intervention of international organisations and bodies to protect Palestinian journalists and lobby on behalf of those held in detention.
