(IPYS/IFEX) – 21 January 2013 – On 14 January 2013, Nixon Solórzano Bernales, host of the program “Alerta Ciudadana”, broadcast by Channel 25 and dedicated to public safety issues, was stabbed as he left the TV station. The attack took place in the Cajamarca region of northeastern Peru.
Solórzano told IPYS that his attacker, whom he identified as Segundo Bueno Bardales, waited for him to finish his program and attacked him with a kitchen knife, inflicting a cut at the height of the abdomen that required 50 stitches.
According to the journalist, the assailant attacked him in retaliation after Solórzano accused him, in his program, of being involved in a case of domestic violence.
IPYS requests that the relevant authorities provide the necessary safeguards to prevent other attacks on Solórzano, and that the police conduct a thorough investigation to punish the offender, who has been released by order of the prosecutor, as reported by Solórzano.
