Colectivo La Piedrita said that members of their group had been killed by "paramilitary men paid by the TV channel, to create turmoil and mayhem".
(IPYS-Venezuela/IFEX) – On March 11, 2012 a group of members of Colectivo La Piedrita, an armed group from “23 de enero” area, in western Caracas, went to the offices of Globovisión to request an investigation be made by the authorities with regards to the deaths of two former members of the group in a series of armed standoffs on March 10.
Representatives from the Colectivo went to Globovisión with the hearses of the deceased group members. In their statements they blamed the news channel for the deaths. They said that the group fighting against them consisted of “paramilitary men paid by the TV channel, to create turmoil and mayhem”.
The previous day, a group of men from the so-called Revolutionary Secretariat of Venezuela, which also operates in the same area of Caracas, went to Globovisión to read a communiqué where they labeled the station as responsible for “promoting violence” through its “magnification” of the events that took place in the “23 de enero” area. This group also accused “Ultimas Noticias” newspaper of engaging in a “terrorist-media campaign” operating via social networks.
