The TV programme editor was wounded by one of the five shots fired against the news crew by two unidentified men on a motorbike.
(IPYS/IFEX) – On 11 December 2009, two journalists who work for Carajás TV’s crime program “Campo Mourão Urgente”, were attacked as they edited the program. The event took place in the State of Paraná, southern Brazil.
Camera operator Rogério Pimentel reported that his editor was wounded by one of the five shots fired against them by two unidentified men on a motorbike. Another two shots struck one of the program’s vehicles.
Rita de Cássia dos Santos, producer of the program, suspects those responsible for the attack may be local drug traffickers attempting to hinder the work of the press.
The news team decided to change their editing location to prevent further attacks.
The police are investigating the case.
