Jaime José Daza is known in the region for his denunciations and critical reports on the local administration.
(FLIP/IFEX) – Early in the morning of 22 January 2011, journalist Jaime José Daza, known as J.J. Daza, was threatened by two unknown individuals.
The assailants, who were on a motorcycle, intercepted him as he was heading to the studios of the Maravilla Estéreo radio station, where he works on a news programme.
Daza told FLIP that one of the assailants, who was wearing a hooded top, told him, “You are not going to do the news today, we are going to shut down the news programme, so get out of here.” They then took Daza’s money and a tape recorder that contained information on an investigation he has been carrying out.
The journalist is known in the region for his denunciations and critical reports on the local administration.
The chief of police in Cesar, Colonel Hugo Javier Velázquez, said that the police were providing some accompaniment to the journalist. The identity of the two assailants is not known but the police chief said that the Prosecutor’s Office would investigate the incident.
