Mohamed Jameel was inexplicably arrested and deported to Britain after arriving, along with his family, at the Queen Alia International Airport.
(ANHRI/IFEX) – Cairo, 20 December, 2011 – ANHRI condemns the ban on Mohamed Jameel, a British rights activist of Palestinian origins and vice president of the Arab Organization for Human Rights in Britain, prohibiting him from entering Jordan as he was on his way to visit the Permanent Bureau of the Arab Lawyers Union in Amman.
Jameel and his family arrived at the Queen Alia International Airport two days ago, where he was inexplicably arrested and deported to Britain.
“We do not know why Jameel was banned from entering the country. However, it is clear that the ongoing protests of the Arab Spring protests have made the authorities, which do not intend to implement any real democratic reforms, terrified of rights activists and their opinions,” said ANHRI.
“Jordan, which has witnessed pro-democracy protests, should respond to the demands calling for respect for rights and freedoms. It should know that this is the best solution to an internal crisis, and should refrain from using ‘security solutions’,” ANHRI added.
