(IFJ/IFEX) – The body of radio journalist Edgar Tavera Gaona was found on Friday 18 May 2001 in San Lorenzo, in the municipality of Güepsa, Santander.
According to the National Police’s information, the journalist was killed by members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, FARC), as a result of his recent articles on the guerilla group’s actions in the region.
Gaona, thirty-eight years old, worked as a journalist for a community radio station in the municipality of Güepsa.
A group of farmers alerted the authorities upon discovering the body on a farm by the San Lorenzo village, in the municipality of Güepsa’s rural region.
