(IPYS/IFEX) – On 23 February 2013, Luis Choy Yin Sandoval (40), a photographer for the newspaper El Comercio, in Lima, was killed outside his home by an alleged hit man. This took place in the district of Pueblo Libre, in the Peruvian capital.
The photographer was shot once in the head and twice in the abdomen. The National Police believe that Choy may have known the attacker.
Choy was driving out of the garage of the condominium where he lived when another car blocked his way. One of the four people who were inside the car got out and after a brief argument shot the photographer three times.
The killer then walked for one block, got into a waiting car and escaped without a trace.
The photographer’s body was taken to the Santa Rosa Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
It was thought initially that the attack could have been a robbery. Preliminary police investigations, however, ruled out this hypothesis because nothing was stolen.
The police took Choy’s cell phone and inspected his home, searching for clues.
IPYS requests the authorities thoroughly investigate this crime in order to clarify as soon as possible the causes for the photographer’s murder.
