A Palestinian journalist was detained by Israeli forces on 24 April 2013 while covering an event for Pal Media News.
The Israeli Occupation Forces detained a Pal Media cameraman Abdul Ghani Al Natsheh on 24 April 2013 during his coverage of the visit of the Secretary-Generals of the Arab National Education and Culture Committees to the Ibrahimi Mosque in the West Bank city of Hebron.
Al Natsheh reported to the Palestinian Centre for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) immediately after his release. While he was covering the event, he said, a female Israeli soldier started hurling insults at him which prompted him to ask her what her reasons for such abuses were, which then lead to a verbal altercation between them.
“Then came a general from the Israeli occupational army and detained me under the sun for an hour and a half. He also tried to force me to sign a statement declaring I was not exposed to such treatment, but I refused to do so,” Al Natsheh added.
MADA condemns the continuing series of violations against Palestinian journalists, and calls on the international community to take a serious and urgent stand in order to protect Palestinian journalists and freedom of expression.
