The article, which contained statements by former presidential candidate and current governor of Miranda state, Henrique Capriles Radonski, called on the population to protest the implementation of a biometric ID system for food purchases and placed the responsibility for food scarcity with the federal government, should have been published in the August 24 issue, but it was not.
“In the dead of the night @UNoticias removes reporters’ work. This was supposed to come out today with statements by @hcapriles”, tweeted Ruíz, who is also the secretary general of the National Union of Press Workers.
IPYS Venezuela made repeated efforts to contact Ruíz but was unsuccessful. Despite taking the incident public, so far there has been no official response by Últimas Noticias.
