(IPYS/IFEX) – During the night of 8 September 2005, Rodolfo Lobo Tello, director of Radio Feroz station in Contamana, was threatened while at home by an unknown individual who accused him of having broadcast damaging information about him. Contamana is the capital of Ucayali province, in Loreto region, eastern Peru.
Lobo told IPYS that the man said he came from the neighboring town of Oledaña. He reportedly berated the journalist for having revealed certain information about him which led to the collapse of his business. Lobo said that the man could only have been making reference to the campaign against the region’s drug dealers which he embarked on recently, and which has led to a number of arrests.
The journalist said he will be asking the Ucayali province sub prefecture for protection. According to confidential information provided by the local police, Contamana may be becoming part of a new route for drug traffickers.
