(IPYS/IFEX) – On the night of 26 December 2005, journalist Rory Huaney Rodríguez of “Radio Orbita” received a death threat from Jean Carlo León Martínez, the son of Amaro León León.
León León, the former mayor of Yungay province – located in the northeastern region of Ancash – was sentenced in December in connection with the murder of journalist Antonio De La Torre.
According to Huaney, León Martínez also ordered him to stop reporting on his father’s legal case.
Huaney reported the threat to the local police.
Huaney also noted that, four months prior to the current threat, he had reported being physically assaulted by León Martínez to the Criminal Investigation Division (División de Investigación Criminal, DIVINDRI) of the Huaraz Police. The investigation was not pursued to any conclusion.
