(IPYS/IFEX) – On the morning of 29 May 2006, radio journalist Eduardo Ganoza Cochachi was assaulted by activists from the Peruvian Aprista Party (Partido Aprista Peruano), for having questioned their violent actions toward an official of the Nationalist Party (Partido Nacionalista).
According to the journalist, Alberto Egúsquiza Bernardo and Alan Vigo Flores burst into the broadcast cabin and threw themselves upon and began punching Ganoza, who was then broadcasting his program “El Observador” on Radio Huarmey, located in Huarmey, in northeast Peru. Other staff at the radio station prevented the assailants from continuing their attack.
IPYS condemns the violent actions against journalists by the members of any political party.
