(IPYS/IFEX) – On the evening of 31 May 2006, Robin Ipanaque Hidalgo and Walter Maldonado Maguiña, journalists for Radio Melodía in Huaraz, northeastern Peru, were physically assaulted by Isaías Terry Valverde, manager of Sport Ancash professional football club.
The journalists were giving their views about the team’s performance from a transmission cabin of the Rosas Pampa stadium at the end of the game when Terry entered the cabin, beat them and threatened them in order to stop them from continuing their commentary. The program’s transmission equipment was damaged during the assault.
The journalists filed a complaint with the local police and requested protection from the Prefecture.
