(IPYS/IFEX) – On 10 July 2006, journalist Horacio Poggi, director of “El Progreso” newspaper, published in Merlo, a district near the capital, Buenos Aires, filed a complaint with Merlo’s Sixth Police Station regarding anonymous death threats he received at the newspaper’s editorial office.
The threats were also distributed on the district’s main street. Poggi suspects that they are related to a recent series of articles on local politics, published in the newspaper.
The case has been sent to the Eighth Criminal Investigations Office of Morón, led by Norma Menéndez.
The journalist told IPYS that this is the second time he has been threatened. In 2004, he received threats over a series of articles on lack of safety in the area.
“El Progreso” has been in publication since November 2003 and focuses on local news.
