(IPYS/IFEX) – On 17 November 2006, unidentified persons wrote intimidating messages against a group of journalists in Huaraz’s main square, in northwestern Peru. The messages threaten them with death and accuse them of being corrupt and of defending the interests of Barrick, a mining company.
The journalists named in the messages are: Lalo Villa, director of the Channel 13 television programme “Primera Edición”; Gudelia Gálvez, host and director of the Channel 13 news programme “Noticias en Red”; and Javier Poma, producer and host of the Channel 9 television news programme “ATV Noticias Regional”.
Local police stated that they will investigate the case.
