(IPYS/IFEX) – On 23 November 2007, América TV correspondents Alejandro Espinoza and Walter Anaya were struck and threatened by a group of relatives of Luciano López Espinosa, a lawyer accused of raping a minor. The incident took place in the town of Sihuas in the Áncash region of northwestern Peru.
The journalists were filming the transfer of the accused to a local jail when a group of his relatives attacked the journalists, hitting them and attempting to seize their video recorder. They also threatened to kill the journalists.
The reporters have asked the government of Huaraz for protection.
