The incident took place in Pucallpa, Ucayali region, southeastern Peru.
The assault is believed to be linked to Gonzáles’ criticism of alleged irregularities in Velásquez’s administration.
The journalist told IPYS that his assailants beat him as he left the television station. Gonzáles was rushed to the region’s hospital, but suffered no serious injuries.
The police said they have arrested two women who participated in the assault, one of whom works for the regional government.
