(IPYS/IFEX) – On 12 February 2009, TV Liberal and Radio Continental journalist Roberto Gomes Barbosa reported that he was assaulted by Marcos Soares, a Government Secretariat official in the Campos de Goytacazes mayor’s office, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The assault took place at the Radio Continental premises after Gomes Barbosa broadcast a report about irregularities in the licensing of a radio station and the inappropriate use of some media outlets by the mayor’s office.
Barbosa filed a complaint at the local police station and asked for protection.
