"This issue should not have been referred to the court in the first place," says ANHRI.
(ANHRI/IFEX) – 7 March 2010 – The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) welcomes the wise decision of the military court to conclude the case of Ahmed Mostafa, owner of the blog http://hazel2eyes.jeeran.com/ . Mostafa is expected to be released shortly.
Mostafa’s defense team, from ANHRI’s Legal Aid Unit, went to court on the morning of 7 March in Medinet Nasr in Cairo, ready with memoranda and all necessary defense documents, where they were surprised to find the case not scheduled in the hearings list. They learnt that the release procedures for Mostafa had already begun.
ANHRI said, “The release decision is a perfectly wise step. This is one issue that should not have been referred to the court in the first place. We hope that the Egyptian government will take other positive steps and release bloggers imprisoned under the emergency law, such as Mossad Abu Fagr and Hani Nazeer, and that justice will be served.
