(ANP/IFEX) – The body of journalist David Niño de Guzmán, news director at Agencia de Noticias Fides (ANF), was found on a street in the outskirts of La Paz on 21 April 2011. The body showed severe signs of trauma, according to his colleagues.
José Luis Columba, an ANF journalist, said it looked like Niño de Guzmán had been assassinated. He said it did not look like a robbery because, although Niño de Guzmán always wore brand-name clothing, none of it had been stolen. His shirt had been destroyed in the apparent attack.
Niño de Guzmán had been missing since nightfall on 19 April, when he had left work headed for home, said Columba. Niño de Guzmán was 42 and married with two children. His family had searched for him after he disappeared.
On 21 April, the police fire department received a report that a body had been found on Avenida Zavaleta, which links the central and southern parts of the city. His family identified the body at the morgue.
The police announced that they have begun an investigation into the cause of death.
ANP is extremely concerned about this incident and calls on authorities to thoroughly investigate Niño de Guzmán’s death.
