A bomb containing a noxious gas was thrown into the Canal 36 television station's facilities by two men on motorcycles.
(C-Libre/IFEX) – At approximately 4:20 a.m. (local time) on 12 September 2009, a bomb containing a noxious gas was thrown into the Canal 36 television station’s facilities, according to the station’s owner and manager, Esdras Amado López. López told C-Libre that two men on motorcycles, whose faces were covered by their helmets, threw the bomb at the building.
“The four floors of the building were filled with the gas (. . .) This constitutes yet another act of terrorism following on the militarisation (of the country). Transmitters have been damaged, journalists have been threatened, etc. No damages to the facilities were sustained in this attack, but the de facto government continues to act with impunity against this media outlet. We are being targeted by the regime,” López said.
Canal 36 is only broadcasting in the Honduran capital since a previous attack destroyed its transmitters and left it unable to operate for more than a week.
