Journalist Ricardo Emilio Oviedo Reyes said that since the 28 June 2009 coup d'état he has been followed by two people.
(C-Libre/IFEX) – Journalist Ricardo Emilio Oviedo Reyes, who works for Canal 40 in the city of Tocoa, Colón, is being followed. Moreover, on the night of 9 April 2010, a group of unidentified people fired bullets outside the television station’s offices.
Oviedo Reyes, president of the Colón Journalists Association and host of the “TV Noticias” programme on Canal 40, said that since the 28 June 2009 coup d’état he has been followed by two people.
“They have followed me and my family. Two people on a yellow motorcycle tracked us from the TV station to the house and they’ve been seen around my home,” said the journalist.
He also said that he and his son were inside the Canal 40 offices when the shots were fired. Oviedo Reyes has not asked for protective measures from international organizations, but he does fear for his life.
Journalist Nahúm Palacios Artiaga was also shot to death in Tocoa, Colón, on 14 March 2010. Oviedo Reyes was the one who reported that crime to the Tocoa police.
