The individual who issued the death threat against Ethel Corea had, just hours before, shot at the president of the radio station's administrative board.
(C-Libre/IFEX) – On 13 March 2011, Ethel Corea, a correspondent for the La Voz de Zacate Grande radio station in the Gulf of Fonseca, in southern Honduras, was threatened by a group of armed civilians.
According to Franklin Meléndez, the president of the station’s administrative board, an individual named Porfirio Medina told Corea that she would be “the second to die.” A few hours earlier, Medina had shot at Meléndez, hitting him in the leg.
The female correspondents for the radio station are constantly being harassed. As an example, in December 2010, Elba Yolibeth Rubio and Elia Xiomara Hernández were detained by police while they were covering a story in the community of Coyolito.
