Security employees of the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela denied access to a small Globovisión team made up of journalist Carlos Alberto Figueroa, cameraman Ademar Dona and assistant Oscar Graterol.
(IPYS-Venezuela/IFEX) – On February 16, 2012 security employees of the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela denied access to a small Globovisión team made up of journalist Carlos Alberto Figueroa, cameraman Ademar Dona and assistant Oscar Graterol.
Figueroa told IPYS-Venezuela that his team intended to do a live broadcast when the electoral commission for the primary elections of Mesa de la Unidad (a coalition of political parties who oppose Chávez) went to the court to contest a ruling that prevented the destruction of tally sheets and voting books of elections held on February 12.
However, some minutes before they tried to bring into the court a set of cables necessary for the live broadcast, officers told the journalists that they needed a permit issued by the President of the Supreme Court of Justice in order to be there.
The officers told Figueroa that he had to leave if he wanted to make the broadcast. Furthermore, they said that the restriction was enforced for Globovisión only.
