Edwin Dimter Bianchi, a former army lieutenant, had pressed criminal charges against journalist Pascale Bonnefoy Miralles in 2006.
(RSF/IFEX) – 19 January 2010 – On 14 January 2010, a court absolved journalist Pascale Bonnefoy Miralles of all charges in a pending libel case. Edwin Dimter Bianchi, a former army lieutenant acting on the orders of General Augusto Pinochet, pressed criminal charges against the journalist in 2006, accusing her of “slander” and “insult”.
In a 26 May 2006 article entitled, “Edwin Dimter, the stadium’s sadistic prince”, Bonnefoy said Dimter was in the Chile Stadium during the military coup of 11 September 1973.
The judge ruled that Bonnefoy had not “intended to insult” Dimter. RSF welcomed the decision, noting how important it was for Chileans to access information on what had occurred during the dictatorship.
