Dr. Oswaldo Godoy had told the paper that the hospital has limited operational capacity because of renovation projects that have been taking place for several years.
(IPYS-Venezuela/IFEX) – On July 14, 2012, Oswaldo Godoy, coordinator of the Epidemiology Service of Vargas Hospital, was laid off after he gave an interview to “El Universal” newspaper. Godoy’s remarks were included in a story on the anniversary of the country’s first hospital, which is located in north Caracas.
Godoy said that currently the hospital has limited operational capacity because of renovation projects that have been taking place for several years.
In the aftermath of his remarks, Godoy received an official letter stating that “he was removed from his position within the Epidemiology Service”.
Several doctors and health workers wrote a public letter expressing their solidarity with Godoy and condemning the hospital’s actions.
