Diagnosis of Press Freedom in Colombia – January 2003
Six journalists kidnapped, three threatened and three cases of journalists’ work being obstructed were documented in January 2003. As the year began, the media and journalists faced difficulties in their efforts to circulate information freely, in a context marked by the national government’s anti-terrorism campaign and its continual calls for responsibility and self-regulation in the media.
The media and free expression organisations responded with a variety of editorials, fora and seminars.
The report “Diagnosis of Press Freedom in Colombia – January 2003” documents violations reported in January and actions that directly or indirectly benefitted or harmed the free movement of information, opinions and ideas.
